Summary: DotCom Secrets is for me the best overview and introduction into growing your business online. However, it is a bit of a hard up-sell book to get you into buying Russell Brunson's ClickFunnels software.
This is why I put this review together. To help you make the most of it and find what's valuable to growing your dotcom business. Enjoy !

If there is one thing you will never find on this blog, it's a bunch of spam ridden promotions of Russell Brunson's products. Why? Because most of those reviews or "bonus-packs" are crap. They get you set up to be a ClickFunnels super affiliate just regurgitating content without any truth.
That't not what the core of DotCom Secrets is about. DotCom Secrets is a step-by-step book laying out the successful foundation for a business--both online or offline.
Now the nuance is in the last part of the previous sentence. While extrememly powerful in the right hands, like most books, DotCom Secrets is only helpful when you take action upon the teachings.
If you put that together with the fact that most people have zero experience in building a successful online business, you have a potential recipe for disaster.
In this DotCom Secrets review, I'm not going to try and sell the book to you. I will simply show you how I use it in my business, the results I get from it and let you decide if the book is right for you.
Keep in mind that the "funnel building" mentioned in the book, is a fairly advanced tactic for businesses looking to grow their conversion, and therefore some of the topics talked about in this post can be complicated. Feel free to use the comments section if you have any questions.
Wait, isn't it just another "how-to" internet marketing book?
Short answer. No. Here are some screenshots from inside the DotCom Secrets book sharing some of the info and what you can expect to get from it.
So yes, the book can teach you exactly what you need to know to build and grow your business online. This works damn well if you already have a business, yet are struggling to get real lasting results. I have spent hours implementing these tactics into my businesses and this has completely revolutionized the way I operate.
My customers are more happy, and I generate more revenue... it's a win-win. However, you do have to build more technical back-end systems and communication touch points for this to "work".
The good news is, DotCom Secrets can help you speed up this process up significantly so it's not as much of a chore as it sounds.
The other good news is that these kind of growth strategies will always work since they stand the test of time. Why? You're giving your customers more value! That's the whole point of a business at the end of the day. But first, let's see if you're ready for this.
How important are traffic and conversions for you?
The first question you need to ask yourself before you jump into something like DotCom Secrets is how serious are you about traffic and conversion.
If you don't already have a business, I would recommend you opt for something much more beginner friendly than DotCom Secrets such as the Expert Secrets Book, and some thought into what value you can bring to this world.
Expert Secrets is also written by Russel Brunson as an educational tool for beginner entrepreneurs looking to make their mark. It has a lot less internet marketing jargon in comparison to DotCom Secrets.
It's great if you don't already run and operate a business, but if you are looking to get started with amplifying your brand, and taking growth to the next level, keep reading, you're in for a treat.
The stuff you need to take care of before considering business growth
Growth is one of the marketing activities where many try and most fail. Why? Because they don't already have a base yet.
Let me be clear. This book is not a magic formula to success. This is a growth formula. That means the tactics you will implement only work if you have a solid value proposition in your business in the first place.
What does this mean?
That means that if you have no solid value you can actually give to your potential customers, your chances for growth are close to zero.
Sure, you'll get maybe a couple extra sales from people who already know who you are, but that's not really what you should be aiming for when spending that much time and resources in building your foundation for growth. You need a fire first, before trying to throw fuel onto it.
Working with clients, and people in my audience, I can't count the number of times I've heard people complain that they still can't grow because their business is "too basic" to implement these tactics, only after to wrap up a few months later because it produced little to no results.
Here's a quick checklist of the things you must have before you start spending time reading the DotCom Secrets book. If you don't have them all, your time is better spent getting them done.
1- You already have an existing business
If you don't already have a business that gives value to customers, you don't really have a need for growth.
If your business does not have a website yet, I suggest you check out what the guys over at Thrive Themes have for you.
They offer conversion focused themes with an amazing visual content builder (that's the framework I'm using on this site and many others).
2- You have a core product that you sell
Let's face it, most of the product development relies on you being able to identify what your customers already want.
If you're unable to give and design value for them, your ability to grow, and chances of success are low.
Start by evaluating what your best sellers already are, and what you can use as your "hero" product. This will give you that base level to build off of.
3- You have a solid brand identity/mission
That's a difficult feat depending upon what you're doing. You should focus in on what exactly your company is about.
This will absolutely skyrocket your results from this book if people know exactly what they can expect to receive from you and your business.
Am I trying to discourage you by putting all these rules out there? No, I think this book is awesome and a ton of knowledge can still be gained from reading it.
However, if you operate under the wrong circumstances, you will put in a ton of hours reading, get confused and curse Brennan for sending you that way.
Let's just put together a little example from within the book, assuming you follow similar actions and implement these strategies in your business.
In the image above, you can see the value ladder for a chiropractor.
Definition: A value ladder contains the steps a dream customer would go through as they "age and ascend". If they purchase more from you, they receive more value, and in turn so do you.
Moreover, Russell explains that his friend only had one basic service... the adjustments. Then he goes on to help him build out other offerings so he has a fully developed value ladder.
In the light of Russell's chiropractor friend Dr. Woolner, he sat down and implemented this new and improved value ladder. Now he would offer massages on the front end to attract people into his business. Additionally, his back-end would be a high ticket wellness program.
This small strategic shift using the fundamentals of the DotCom Secrets, his friend's business completely turned around.
You may not be sure how this applies to your business. Consider what additional value you can provide to people. Like stated earlier, you should have some sort of base business to work off of.
Again, Dr. Woolner already had a great service, he just didn't know how to present it to people correctly to grow his business.
As you can see, if you put the right background elements into place, you could be exploding your business with just a couple simple tweaks.
Plus, this doesn't include the additional leads you'll be able to grow with it too.
Alright, if you're still reading, it's about time I show you how to implement the value ladder into your business as Russell Brunson explains in this short video:
DotCom Secrets Value Ladder
One thing to note with DotCom Secrets as well is how you structure your business. Like every book, the decisions you make on structure and take action upon the lessons are what make or break your results.
Since there's an infinite number of ways you can interpret the teachings inside this book, I like to split this up for operating an internet based business.
The Value Ladder Sales Funnel
As you can see, there is a traffic source that then leads people into your sales fu. nnel
Definition: A sales funnel is a series of steps, or pages and prospect goes through before becoming a lead or customer.
This first step is the beginning of your value ladder. Next, we give our leads an offer that provides them more value.
By the same token, we now have our prospects email, confirming they are a lead that is indeed interested in what we have to offer them. Once they enter their email address, we then deliver them their free offer via email. After that we continue to follow up with them via email over the next few days.
Additionally to the initial free offer, we provide them an up-sell offer that can help them solve their problem.
Finally we confirm their purchase if they took us up on our up-sell offer. This should only convert anywhere from 1-5% of people that go through your sales funnel.
Regardless of if they've made a purchase with us yet or not, we can proceed to follow up with this lead indefinitely and continue to deliver more value.
This sales funnel process best represented by this image, found inside of the DotCom Secrets book:
By all means, each step of your sales funnel is interchangeable, and can be adjusted to best fit your business. This is where Russell Brunson's explanations are quite valuable to understand all the steps, and simple application of these concepts.
Other Reviews
The DotCom Secrets book has seriously changed the way I think about marketing in my businesses, and many other entrepreneurs as well. In fact, take a look at what other's are saying in the Amazon reviews:
As you can clearly see, others share the same feelings about the book. Additionally, do keep in mind this book is an up-sell when reading. However, if you want a simple formula and structure to follow, then DotCom Secrets is the book for you.
You won't find any technical "how-to", but the bigger picture concepts are excellently explained by Russell Brunson inside.
